Tool theft is on the rise; £98 million worth of tools were stolen last year. According to research from Direct Line business insurance, last year, a tool theft was reported every 12 minutes in the UK. 44,514 tool thefts were reported to the police, equating to around £98 million worth of tools.
Thefts are continuing to increase, despite tradespeople each spending an average of £628 on additional security to protect their tools.
More than half (24,543 thefts which represented 55% of the total) of all tool thefts were from a vehicle.
