Our Customer of the Month for May is Steve Ward, Field Service Engineer for Whirlpool.

Steve has a unit at our Tewkesbury self-storage centre. He uses it for the storage of parts for all home appliances including washing machines, dishwashers and cookers

Previously Steve used to store the parts in his sheds. This meant deliveries had to come to his home which meant he wasted a lot of time waiting around.

Originally he hired a unit in Cheltenham but it meant wasting 30 minutes of the working day travelling to pick up parts.

Steve lives in Tewkesbury. When he saw The Space Program was coming to Tewkesbury, as he puts it “ he was chomping at the bit” and was one of the first customers to sign up.

Now it is so convenient being just 1 minute from M5. Steve and another engineer cover all of Gloucestershire right down to Bristol.

Another colleague has a key to the unit and delivers parts daily. The Field Service Engineers come in at the end of the day to stock up.

The most important feature for Steve is the Sign & Store service with 24/7 access. The fact that his storage unit is so close to the motorway and is half a mile from his house makes it all the more perfect.

Steve has worked for Whirlpool for 7 years and has found these times of the virus very challenging. Only essential work is carried out and it is done by appointment only. He calls the customer before arrival and gives an expected time of visit. He has been trained in social distancing, wears gloves and a mask. He requires that the customer is not in the same area of the house as him. “Easier said than done, sometimes.” he says.

Steve commented that he was very flattered to be nominated for Customer of the Month. He said it was really nice to be recognised for the work he was doing during these difficult times.

Asked if there was anything Tewkesbury Space Program could do to make his life any easier he said that there was nothing. All hours access is really important, the site is level and clean with staff very helpful in helping him do his job.
