June is Pride month, celebrating LGBTQ+ communities across the world.
Laura, one of our team members, wanted to share her personal experience;
“As we all know, June is Pride month. The celebrations for Pride have started up and down the country. I love attending Pride events and supporting the local community. It is a safe place for people of all genders, sexualities, and ages to enjoy a day out. Pride events are really important to let people know that they are not alone and have nothing to be ashamed of. The first Pride event I attended I had only been ‘out’ for a few months and was still feeling confused and ashamed about letting people know who I am. The confidence and support I was given that day by the community hugely helped me come to terms with being comfortable being me. I thank every stranger I met that year for giving me the confidence to live my life open and honestly.
It’s great to work for a company that supports me not only in the workplace but with my personal life as well. The company doesn’t shout about how inclusive they are, but I think they should receive the credit they deserve. When my partner went into hospital last October, they supported me with making sure she got better and was able to look after herself before I came back to the office full time. They made me feel that my relationship with her is just as valid as any straight relationship, which is not something I have experienced in any of my previous workplaces. Now, with my upcoming wedding next summer, we are coming up with a plan to support myself and the team as I will be away from the office for 3 weeks during our busy period.”
The Space Program – and Container Team, our parent company, are a really values-driven organisation. Our values are at the core of everything we do. A key part of those values is ‘We are a team’. We embrace inclusivity and want every member of our team, as well as our customers and suppliers, to feel valued and supported.
