Items You Can’t Store in Self Storage: 9 Restricted Items for Safe Storage
There are many things that you CAN store in a self storage container, there are a few ideas listed here.
When using self-storage, a few items are simply off-limits. Keeping these items out ensures safety and keeps everyone’s belongings secure. Here’s a quick look at nine things you can’t store in self-storage containers and why they need to stay out.
1. Perishable Food
Food that can spoil attracts vermin. While snacks are great for space missions, we recommend keeping all perishables out of storage unless they’re tightly sealed to avoid attracting unwanted guests.
2. Living Creatures Don’t Belong in Self Storage
Self storage containers aren’t suitable for pets, fish, or other living creatures. All animals need a more comfortable, monitored environment to thrive. Self storage units can’t provide this, so please make sure animals are housed safely elsewhere.
3. Flammable Items Are Dangerous in Self Storage
Gas canisters, tins of paint, petrol, and some cleaning products are highly flammable. Storing these items creates serious risks for fires or explosions. Therefore, keep flammable items out of self-storage containers.
4. Firearms and Explosives Are Not Allowed in Self Storage
To maintain a safe space for everyone, firearms, ammunition, and other explosives are not permitted. If you have questions about whether specific items are allowed, our team is here to help.
5. Radioactive or Hazardous Materials Aren’t Safe for Storage
Radioactive materials, biological agents, and certain chemicals could pose health risks. For this reason, they don’t belong in storage containers. If an item could be hazardous to health or the environment, it should be stored elsewhere.
6. Toxic Waste & Asbestos Must Stay Out
Toxic materials, including asbestos, can be very dangerous. Storage containers aren’t designed to keep these harmful substances contained, so they’re not allowed. Keeping hazardous materials out protects everyone.
7. Strong-Smelling Items
Any items that emit strong odours or fumes are best stored elsewhere to keep our facilities fresh and pleasant for everyone.
8. Fireworks Are Too Risky to Store
Fireworks are exciting, but they’re also a fire hazard. Storing them in a self storage unit isn’t safe, so please keep fireworks out and enjoy them responsibly.
9. Illegal or Illegally Obtained Goods Aren’t Permitted
Only legally obtained items are allowed in self-storage units. This policy ensures our facilities stay secure and compliant with the law.
